Ode to a Cell Phone
by Dionysos Maskaleris

Remember when we just had answering machines?
Or when the phone would just ring and ring if no one was in?
Or when one would take a chance and walk five or a thousand miles

to see if one was home?

My cell phone is dying! I have a new cell phone!
Will my cell phone reincarnate or go to heaven?

But really in the whole scheme of things
of physics and life - of physical survival and Art
What is not alive and what is alive?
What is important and what just is?

Has my cell phone died or am I alive to love?

Will I fall into the pool of the cell phone drowning in my own vanity?
Or will I see myself and then you in the reflection of our eyes?

Will the phone tell me how well I am connected
by the number of antennas or bars?
Or will those who I love or who love me
show me how to really love?
